The Asia Graphics Association (AG) is proud to announce the winner of the 2017 AG’s Life Time Achievement Award. This award is aimed at recognizing an exceptionally distinguishied scientist in the area of Computer Graphics who has made significant scientific contributions. The winner of this award was selected by the award jury chaired by Prof. Ming Lin (UNC) and Prof. Leif Kobbelt (RWTH Aachen) and the Award Jury has come to the unanimous decision. The winner received his certificate on 17th October, during the 25th Pacific Conference on Computer Graphics and Applications (Pacific Graphics 2017) held in Taipei, China.
The 2017 AG’s Life Time Achievement Award was presented to Prof. Tomoyuki Nishita, who is a Professor Emeritus of the University of Tokoyo, Japan. He is one of the pioneers of the radiosity method and the leader in the development of entire field of computer graphics in Japan. He had made contributions to a wide variety of areas including the rendering of natural phenomena, illumination models, goemtric modeling, animation, simulation, and fabrication. He has written 20 SIGGRAPH/SIGGRAPH ASIA/ACM TOG papers, 18 EUROGRAPHICS papers, and more than 300 papers in total. He also wrote 18 books and 40 Japanese journal papers. He served as the paper committee of SIGGRAPH, SIGGRAPH ASIA, Pacific Graphics, etc., and served as the conference co-chair of Pacific Graphics 2006, 2008, and 2016. Based on his long-standing and remarkable achievements, he received the Steven A. Coons Award from the ACM SIGGRAPH in 2005, for the first time in Asia.
